Horns Show Fight But Come Up Short

University of Texas Longhorns fell behind early and couldn’t come back in an 18-14 loss to Texas State on Sunday. Texas State took the lead on a walk in the second inning.
Despite the loss, University of Texas Longhorns did collect 13 hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Texas State had 14 hits on the way to victory.
In the second inning, Texas State got their offense started when Craft drew a walk, scoring one run.
University of Texas Longhorns put up four runs in the ninth inning. University of Texas Longhorns put the pressure on, lead by singles by Clay Hodges and Remington Linda and a double by Nick Rodriguez.
Texas State scored seven runs in the fourth inning. The big inning for Texas State came thanks to an error on a ball put in play by Sparkman and Bynum, a single by Easley, and by Rucka.
Craft led things off on the rubber for Texas State. He surrendered eight runs on seven hits over five innings, striking out eight.
Will Hansen was on the mound for University of Texas Longhorns. He lasted three innings, allowing two hits and three runs while striking out three. Hodges, John Thomas, and Josh Heard each contributed in relief for University of Texas Longhorns.
University of Texas Longhorns racked up 13 hits on the day. Jordan Powell, Cody Mysliwiec, Linda, Josh Ybarra, and Thomas each managed multiple hits for University of Texas Longhorns. Thomas, Ybarra, Linda, Mysliwiec, and Powell each collected two hits to lead University of Texas Longhorns.
Texas State racked up 14 hits. Easley, Lutzel, Rucka, and Demina each collected multiple hits for Texas State. Easley went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead Texas State in hits.

The Longhorns got swept all three games in the series and open conference play 0-3. They play Tulane at home in a non-conference matchup next weekend

Horns Blown Away in Second Game of Doubleheader

University of Texas Longhorns watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 9-1 loss to Texas State on Saturday. Texas State took the lead on a single in the first inning.
The University of Texas Longhorns struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Texas State, giving up nine runs.
Texas State got on the board in the first inning. Demina singled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs.
Texas State scored three runs in the fourth inning. Texas State’s big inning was driven by singles by Rucka and Demina and a double by Lutzel.
Rucka earned the win for Texas State. He allowed two hits and one run over five innings, striking out four and walking one. Taylor and Munoz entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Miles Okamoto took the loss for University of Texas Longhorns. He allowed nine hits and eight runs over three and a third innings, striking out four.
Chris Simon and Nick Rodriguez each managed one hit to lead University of Texas Longhorns.
Texas State racked up 11 hits on the day. Rucka, Demina, Sparkman, and Lutzel all had multiple hits for Texas State. Texas State didn’t commit a single error in the field. Bynum had the most chances in the field with five.

Horns Lose First Game of Season to Texas State

In the first inning, Texas State got their offense started when Demina singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.
In the bottom of the second inning, University of Texas Longhorns tied things up at two. University of Texas Longhorns scored one run on a stolen base.
Texas State pulled away for good with four runs in the third inning. In the third Demina doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run, Lutzel doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run, Bynum singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run, and an error scored one run for Texas State.
Cabrera took the win for Texas State. He surrendered two runs on four hits over four innings, striking out four. Sparkman and Brockhoff entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Connor Kraus took the loss for University of Texas Longhorns. He went five innings, allowing eight runs on seven hits, striking out eight and walking one.
Nick Williams led University of Texas Longhorns with two hits in three at bats.
Texas State collected nine hits on the day. Demina, Scott, and Lutzel each managed multiple hits for Texas State. Demina went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Texas State in hits.
